The Writer's Corner

Educator, composer, orchestrator, and arranger Jerry Gates has been a music industry professional for over thirty years. As a professor at Berklee College of Music, he teaches a variety of writing courses within the Contemporary Writing and Production department. Jerry also teaches Arranging: Small Ensemble and Horns, Arranging: Advanced Horn Writing, and Arranging: Woodwinds and Strings online via Berklee’s online school, Berkleemusic.com. Additionally, Jerry teaches writing and orchestration techniques privately through his website, jerrygatesmusic.com.

Jerry's most recently completed projects include composing and producing music for Neslte’s “Wonk Your Room” online promotion, orchestrating songs for a variety of international clients, and authoring a composition book entitled All Twelve - Dodecaphonic Sources For Contemporary Composition.

Jerry holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, a Master of Music/Composition degree from the Hartt School, and has studied film composition and arranging privately with Jack Smalley, Allyn Ferguson, and Dick Grove.
